Horo is the new vinyl only sister label to Geoff Presha's Samurai Music imprint. Holding dear the value of what has proved to be a more enduring medium than many could have expected 10 to 15 years ago. There is certainly is still an allure to what is essentially a format from the past which has been kept alive by the metaphoric life support machine that is DJ culture...

The ''music format'' argument has been debated longer than most would care to remember, but surely this alone shows that is a debate still at the forefront of the music, at least within bass music. A debate that has now extended into more recent technology led listening services.

Recent current affairs within bass music has seen record distributor ST Holdings move away from the devaluation of music by removing all but 4 of their labels numbering over 200 from services such as Spotify, Simfy, Rdio and Napster.

“As a distributor we have to do what is best for our labels. The majority of which do not want their music on such services. They provide poor revenue and have a detrimental [effect] on sales. Add to that, the feeling that their music loses its specialness by its exploitation as a low value/free commodity,”

Citing a parallel between the pronounced decline in digital sales with the addition of the labels to such services... Launching the new Horo label are Presha's fellow New Zealanders Tokyo Prose and newcomer FIS. Following the success of their heavily rotated debut EP on Samurai, Tokyo Prose along side FIS bring a new dimension to their sound for the first in the limited edition series. This is followed by ASC who likewise returns to the Samurai camp to redeliver the goods. Horo002 is the audio equivalent of aggravated assault (in a good way)!
