The exploration of 140 bpm music by 170 bpm artists is well documented and well travelled. Less common is for 140 bpm artists to experiment within the realms of the drum & bass tempo's. With your latest works "Guidance" and "Reflection" on Exit Records you have set out on this less travelled path. As musicians and electronic producers, what does the bpm of a track represent and how does the approach to 170 bpm music differ from that of lower tempos?

If you look at it as 85bpm it seems to free up a lot of space, It can be fast in places but there's room for everything to breathe and you can hold certain elements back more. The music we produce at the lower tempos translated well and it just gave us more room to experiment. It's fun to work with various tempos, it gets boring doing the same thing all the time, but we did both make drum & bass before we became known for our work in other genres.

Many artists site the process of collaboration as a liberating experience where less pressure is placed on the individual and the meeting of minds can create a clearer and more concise direction for a track. For both of you, how does collaboration effect both the creative and technical processes when making music?

Things flow quite naturally between us in the studio, the way we work is quite similar and things come together quite quickly when we work together. We usually make a bunch of tunes in a small period of time & then nothing for months but it seems to work.

The 170 bpm work that you have done up to now has been well recieved by all of the right people. Do you have any active plans to continue writing music with drum & bass tempos?

We would love to keep making music for as long as we can, we both have a deep passion for all kinds of music. But we have been working on a few "drum & bass" bits recently so there's definitely a bit more to come.

Following the Mosaic Vol.1 LP, this is the second outing on Exit Records for both of you. How does the ethos of the label work for you as artists?

We admire Darren and the ethos behind the label. Being part of the Exit catalogue is something we will always be proud of and he has shown a level of support and guidance that no other has. We never expected anyone to pick up on the tunes, so its still a bit of a blur that this is how things have turned out. Massive respect to Darren and everyone that has supported our sound.

What can we look out for from Synkro, Indigo and Exit Records (Will) over the next few months?

We are playing in the Autonomic Room at Fabric in July and Outlook Festival in Croatia. Another 12" forthcoming on Exit hopefully by the end of this year, our track "Knowing You" on Brownswood Electr*c 2 and various tunes lined up for Mindset. We are both still writing solo material to with releases on various labels.
