Over the last 3 years Birmingham's Listening Sessions crew have been nurturing a fertile bed of underground artists at a grass roots level. Grafting hard at the coal face they are now releasing their first single in the form of Yilan's 'Contortion' and 'Exoskeleton'.

The black country based imprint launches with Yilan who has had his music supported by Rinse FM’s Mumdance and NTS’ Mosca. Displaying a pedigree for dynamic floor movers, Yilan’s take on Techno influenced UK Bass music is firmly rooted in the dance. A mainstay of the monthly Listening Sessions event, his productions are well tested on PST Club's sound system.

Entering the fray with descending stabs and thunderous sub lines of ‘Contortion’, the single makes a statement of intent. Lurking beneath a evident surface however, is a far more subtle undertone waiting to breach. Synth work yielding an altogether less pronounced but discernible dystopian subtext. This is dub grown up.

‘Exoskeleton’ follows on with a kind of stop-start call-response rhythm binding kung fu percussion with cyber punk aesthetics. metallic fx and innate groove. Carrying on where ‘Contortion’ left off, the dynamic quality of the production is consistent and doesn’t let up.

The single marks a milestone for the Listening Sessions stable and hopefully an indicator of what we can expect to follow.
